Across the globe, more and more governments are rolling out digital identification systems. These systems combine citizen tracking and verification with the instant information storage and retrieval capabilities of digital technologies. They also produce new tensions and possibilities, both on and offline.

Many of us have little reason to think about digital identification systems until they’re implemented in our regions. A Digital ID Handbook is a guide for anyone who is confronting a digital ID system and in search of strategies for organizing around it.
